Hard drive question...?

ok so about 3 months ago i had to replace my computer's hard driv e because i had a VIRUS....i didnt think that i needed to replace it but i went with it...but it just failed AGAIN!! also they said that it was "too far gone" to recover my data...........but i think they are just giving me crappy hard drives!! and the new one that i got was $50 which sounds like a really small amount to pay for a GOOD hard drive so i think that they gave me another crappy one.....sooo am i being ripped off??
